im thinking of building a buggy powered by a bike engine. has anyone done this on here. what would be the best doner engine. has anyone any pictures i have a fairly good idea what to do something im not sure is how to do the steering assembly whats the best way to do this. id be glad of any advice you can give

To get the gearing right.
find out what the gearing of your donor engine is, this includes the rear tyre outside diameter and the sprocket sizes, remember that most 600cc modern sport bikes are geared to do at least 160mph!
Decide what gearing you would like to have, offroad buggies probably won't go over 100mph. Decide what size tyres you will use on your drive wheels, then fit sprockets of suitable sizes to achieve that! Simples

That's the one! Tons and tons of info on that site!
Clutch should be fine for standard power. The bigger problem with bike-engined cars is that cars have more grip, and thus tend to break the gearbox of the bike engine. A bike typically only has got a palm-size patch of grip, and a cush drive (rubbers in the rear sprocket) to dampen the attack. A car has typically 2-4 times contact patch. However, on an off-roader this shouldn't be such a big problem.
I'm sure there are dedicated forums that can answer such questions.
On a slightly different note there's also a UK based company that does off-road buggies, powered by Honda Fireblade engines, etc.
Close to £20,000 is a bit steep for a toy for me though!

Off-road you don't have too much of a problem with a high 1st gear because you're not going to be gearing for 100mph+ top-end like you might on the road.
Forget the 'busa engine unless you have a good few quid in your pocket because the kitcar and dragracer guys snap them all up. A GSXR1000 engine would be easier and cheaper to get and makes a lighter package.
