I put this here as those who have bikes might be interested.
Last October I bought a pair of the knock-down Kevlar jeans from ebay, not expecting much, but was quite impressed when they arrived, and after a bit of alteration, they finally got worn yesterday for the first warm day out of the year. Prior to that, I'd be been wearing winter grade leggings which were sturdy enough, but my previous summer trousers just weren't very hard wearing at all, and I'm glad I didn't slide off.
Anyway, first impressions are good, they fit well, plenty of room move about, the hip padding stays in place, the knee padding needs moved a bit more and the overal fit and finish is acceptable enough for a back-road scratcher that might hit the odd patch of cow-carp or diesel.
I deliberately bought them over-long-fit to allow the hems to break on top of my boots when I'm in normal riding posture, and had the bottom 3" removed. It's good; no drafts at all.
The Kevlar panels on these ones are quite extensive and I have hopes they actually do what they claim to do. I think I'll have the knee-pad pockets mounted on the outside, as slouching around during the day with the kneepads inside is a bit of a nuisance, but the hip-protectors are almost totally unobtrusive in normal use.
The make was Force Riders on ebay - plenty of them left, and I think I'll be buying another couple of sets, as It means I can wear these all the time and just jump on the bike and go without worrying about too-light legware, as I'd been doing.
There's a rake of other offers on ebay for similar money - £30-ish - which makes me wonder just how much profit is being made by the other, more established Kevlar jeans makers - several hundred per cent I think.
