thought I would sort my big vice out on a boring sunday afternoon , has had one jaw bolt out all the time ive had it and never affected it at all just knew it needed doing one day . thought I would try loosen the other on and see if I could weld a nut on the broken one that was sticking out and get it off that way ,now both snapped...haha , will I have to slowly drill out or are any of these extractors any good...thanks ian ( should have left it well alone...lol )

Blob some weld on it if it's not recessed and get it with mole grips while still hot

take a cup of tea now and clear the head as it ill be less hassle in the long run to give it some thought.
they may come out handyish but they werent screwed in there yesterday either so they will be well in there.
drilling it out id keep to the last resort because even with the right tools its not simple to get them bang on center.

as said you could slowly build up the heads of the screws with some weld but be careful not to weld the whole lot together.
if and when heat is applied to something it will swell so id let them cool before id go to move it.
then give the heads of the welds a right few smacks of the hammer (not too heavy and not too light) to shock the threads and with vice grips slowly rock it back n forth to see if it gives, keep working penetrant in there as you go.


if it still dosent look like its going to move then and i know its not going to do the vice any favors but it wont harm it too much either id heat the surrounding area round the screw and see would that loosen them.

worst case scenario you could bore them out then, but you would want to have a good way of working to get them right as new jaws like their mounting holes to be precise.

thanks for the advise I really appreciate it , just starting to weld so will have to be very careful ..lol , a nut will weld on the one sticking out as that was my original plan , what do you think of putting a small piece of tube the same diameter as the bolt on top and filling the core with weld then as you say get it with the mole grips and work it out , or say sod it and take it to my friends fabrication place...haha

Put a close fitting washer over the bit sticking out and weld the middle up then try welding a nut to it to get something to work with.

I have done lots of this
You build the weld up slowly blip by blip. The repeated heating and cooling breaks the grip. If there is room to fit a nut on go for it.
Don't make any real effort to await it cooling once you have it built up or nut firmly welded just go for it

I had a front pin ( screw) stuck totally fast on an old boxlock shotgun a while back tried to sort it for ages saving the screw - in the end I tig welded a bit of 1/4 " bright ms to it and simply screwed it out like it was never stuck
