Bi-metal bandsaw blades

Hi All,

Just took delivery of a Draper 4" bandsaw today via fleabay - MBS46A
- same as the Sealey SM5 and the Clarke ones kicking around. Only paid 50 quid so I'm more than happy. I was wondering if someone could suggest the best place to get bimetal blades for it ?

Dragon saw blades in south wales have got some very good reports and i believe they can make any size you need if its an unusual one.

Unfortunately I think Dragon Baldes may no longer be in business - sure I read somewhere that people hadn't been able to get hold of them recently

Just stay away from the MM junk ones, show them any more than a bit of Ali and they shed their teeth rapidly. My local supplier got hold of some decent ones for me in the end, and I believe Weldmet stock them too. Have you tried good old Weldequip on here too? IIRC the size is something like 62 1/4 inches, although dont quote be on that.

You could try:

Cromwell tools.
J and L industrial
Saws (UK)

all will turn up with a yahoo/google search.

All offer good price branded blades. The best place to get proper advice on Bi metal is saws (UK) good guys and know there stuff very well indeed, selling metal cutting saws and blade making is all they do.

You might struggle with bi metal on home diy hobby type machine due to a bad lack of rigidity and speed control. Its important to know the restrictions with bi metal so you don't end up destroying them, which can be a costly exercise.

As mentioned stay away from the likes of commercial diy stores. They only sell over priced cheap nasty low carbon junk from china. It may not be sold under that label, but that's where they come from.
