After watching the Chernobyl thing on the old one eyed lodger. I wonder if creatures like this are an unfortunate consequence, as opposed to an evolutionary (or god) thing.

It is reckoned that the radiation at Chernobyl has had only a minor effect on the animals and plants that are now thriving there.
