Best Way To Join Portable Box Section Framework

Bit of a funny question and have been pondering over it for a few days.....

I have been asked to make a prototype of basically a frame that when looking from above it looks like an X and then when looking crossways it is joined from the bottom X to the top X so if you imagine at the end of every X. so it is 2 squares that are joined in the middle of the X if looking above so to speak.

Now this needs to be portable to go to clubs, bars, etc... I have looked at the modular systems but it requires something that fixes and locks into place as something is supported in the middle of the frame for display - hanging.

The frame is to be made from 25mm box section 3mm wall. The other option is creating sleeves but from experience these tend to get a little wobbly and also a pain when cross drilling the pins and making sure the bits do not have to go in a specific place to fit.

Any suggestions??

What about spigots on the X frames & then use over centre clips to pull the the X frames onto the joining piece

Tabs and bolts welded with a wing nut to fasten together. You can make a wing nut tool from a piece of tube with a slot in the end. You could use 3mm strip for reinforcing.
