Best way to go about training and gaining 6G welding certs?

Hey y'all!

I'm currently attending college in Gateshead where I am hoping to gain my City & Guilds Level 1 and 2 qualifi

cations in MIG, MMA and TIG and would like to know what route would be the best to go down to get some further training and tested to get 6G coded once I've done this?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

,,,,,6 GR is a pipe test on a 45* with a ristriction ring,,, now have you ever done any welding that resembles that??? if not then you have to start practising,,, this is done with flux cored wire ,,,,,,imho

6gr is a position and can be done with any process..
and it is a 45* fixed postion pipe with a single bevel prep and 2 ristriction rings, leaving a very small gap to work into

and that is a long way from CG level 2. or was when i done them.
the best way to do it, is practice practice and practice.. no other way will do it.
to get a good level 6g pipe it normally takes about 8-12 months of constant welding.

you need to be able to do every plate position. and even think of some that are interesting, such as 45* in both planes welding from underneath

but there is no easy way to do it

Cheers for the advice guys. I plan to practice asas much as possible, but need to find somewhere to do so first. I've looked for courses etc but can't find any.

Also, how much more difficult is it to weld duplex steel pipes? I plan to emigrate to Oz one day and this seems to be a position that offers excellent money.

oz qualifications are all different to uk ones best off contacting
Australia House in London cost of living in oz is more expensive than uk now

Are you a welder now?? are you working now?? I hope you can answer yes to these questions!! ussually you would have an agreement with your employer that you will practice on down time or breaks on this proceedure! it would be to his advantage to have you break out as a 6 gr welder under his employment, you need material to do this ,,a 6 inch sch.120 and a 6 inch sch. 80 this one with a bevel and so on,,,, at least thats the way it's done here,,,,,,, good luck,,,,,,

To answer your qquestions: yes, I am currently employed but not as a welder. However, I do bits of welding now and again and can practice during downtime.

I know qualifications in Oz are different but there tests should still be the same, which is why I believe thar getting to 6G standard prior to emigrating would be highly advantageous.

Yes Gary that is so but ,,,reaching that point is usually achieved with months maybe years of welding experience,,, now I'm talking thru witness I don't say experience because I don't work as a welder but I've been around it a good while, the way I see it !! you start welding structual steel ,some try to go directly to pipe but that way you're missing a step, anyway while you're doing that you practice the pipe proceedure till you master it and then you test,,,,, You have'nt said at what point you're at?? maybe you'vebeen welding for years??? and you're ready for 6g,,,, good luck ,,,,,,,,,,,,
