Best way to cut flags

The cheap concrete pressed ones . Small angle grinder doesnt quite cut through all the way. Larger grinder with diamond disc ?

Cant justify a stihl saw but Ive told the budget holder Ill need a new grinder

Whats a half decent make of grinder nowadays ?

I cut through from the front face then turn them over and smack the back with the hammer and they break the rest of the way. 9" is handy if you are cutting out round manhole covers though

I do it the other way for natural stones so you don't see a straight cut

For cutting flags I’ve got a b and q cheapy, it’s been great. I don’t use it enough to justify spending more on a decent one (though hitachi did a twin pack that was good value at Screwfix a while back with a 4.5 and 9 inch) but to be honest it’s more than adequate. It’s got soft start, and cuts. I’m sure more expensive ones might be a bit nicer feel and last longer if using them day in day out...

less than 100 will get u a good make of grinder and those cheapo diamond disc's from any and everwhere will do the cutting.....disc's from a 10nner......
a 9" grinder is an asset over the years.....I have around 8 running, all with diff disc's.....

that twin grinder Hitachi offer from Screwfix, I bought a right load, kept 10 for me and sold the rest in France.....
got an extra £50 on top o the price......
In SW France at the time a decent make of grinder started around the €230 and thats just for the 9".....
Now wish I'd bought the pallet load.....hahaha....
never found cheapo disc's there.....Norton blue disc's were €140 each for the 9"....all mine and other stuff got couriered from the UK....easy peasy.....

In all seriousness, i have a draper 9" from machine mart.
I only use it sporadically - maybe 1 day a year. But the day i use it is a full 8 hour day, pretty much non stop.
I've been very happy with it over the last 10?15? years.

Soft start is a must (for me).

I have an erbauer diamond disc for stone/brick

Hikoki for grinders every time for me.
Cutting slabs etc, I cut half way through from the front face, then an inch or two in from each side cut right through then snap.

I find the little cut right through at the ends stops the corner breaking off. Doesn't happen often, but usually when you've got no spares or it's right on show

I used a bit of angle iron clamped each end, then had a guide I could work to. Made handling a 9 inch a lot easier

I just cut a line on both sides , a good cut through both ends and it’ll break easily. I did it with my 100mm grinder

I've just bought these to do the patio, one runs but stalls the other has been run without oil by the look of it!
I'll fettle the runner and repair the other one then sell one.

I have a pair of sthil saws like that. Just run it on half choke, seems to work. Very handy tool ideal for cutting up steel in the stock holders yard to get it home.

Might sound quite random to some, But I used a diamond disc in my circular saw to cut some slate patio slabs square
