Best way of removing galv

ive just started a new job and on jobs is to repair masts the masts are galvanised and to repair them we cut out damaged legs and put in new the new legs are also Galved so we strip back the weld area with grinders and flap disc but this takes ages does anybody know a quicker way or away to stop certain areas from being galved on the leg

on flat sheet we used acid but not much good to u on this job I'm afraid.........
how about heavy duty sandblasting ??
and for stopping the galv, perhaps 2pack paint, well cured......??

I find grinding off galv at a slower speed with a finer grit works better if not quicker,too much heat and friction tends to get no where IMHO,i guess these legs are hot dipped,depending how thick it is then it can be a sod

Ensure you always wear a mask when grinding galv.

Grinding them is the quickest way, but use either ceramic flap disks or soft pads

The grit off the grinder is worse than the galv your grinding so you should wear a mask all the time when grinding. Galv's really bad when your burning it off

Try lightly using a largish carbide burr in a die grinder.
