Which is the better shielding gas for MIG welding? We are currently using CO2 gas as the shielding gas. The welding parameters are Voltage: 18-22V and Current is 120-160Amps. We are welding various sheet thickness ranging from 1.6mm to 4.8mm. Which is the suitable welding parameter? The welding machine used is CHOWEL 400.

CO2 produces a very dirty weld, with lots of weld splatter. you are far better off with argon/co2. argoshield universal, thats a BOC trade name but if i remember right its about 10-12% co2 2% O2 and the rest is argon.

I have had some experience in fabrication shops in Kolkata, Pune and Mumbai, not Chennai (Madras??
) A Argon Co2 mix of any description would give you instant improvements, but uts quite expensive in comparison......if you have a large welding operation, you could speak to Praxair, Ellenbarrie gases etc about bulk supply storage tanks at your facility and mix your own.
