best place to get stainless steel rod/bar/wire

need to find somewhere that does thin stainless steel.

around 2mm thick or so.

to make a wire basket.

anyone use a supplier they know about.

TIG rods? 1.6 or 2.4mm very common in 308 or 316.

You're just under a metre in length with the stamping on though. Not sure if that's too short.

OMG !! why didn't i think of tig rods lol

aww brain still in sleep mode

i have some 1.6mm ones

and il try my 2+2 spot welder to see if it does a good job on joining them.

maybe grab some 2.4mm ones too and could use that for top rail..


or as merryman says mesh....

il go and look and see if i can find any.

wow mesh aint cheap and cant see any used only new.

il try joining the tig rods with spot welder.

well i tried two 1.6mm rods today in the spot welder
set on 1.5 + 1.5 and it welded them but a little too much..
tried on 1.2 + 1.2 and still a little too much..

il have a search for a couple of 2.4mm rods.
only need to be short just to test in the welder.

if it works out ok then il order a pack. if i win what i need the basket for

and if the TIG rods are too short you can get spools of Sub Arc Wire in 2 and 2.4 but its rare but your welding supplier should be able to source some.

well i never won the item
it went for way too much for a second hand unit with no basket or lid.
