Best part of UK for Tig carbon steel pipe welder

Hi Mates,
Im new on this forum, Im a Tig welder since 2,5 year. I have experience with carbon steel pipe welding such a p235gh, 16mo3, 10h2m, 13crmo, pipes dimeters from half inch to 20 inch with walls thickness from 3 mm do 12 mm. I will start to look for a job in UK from next month but im not shure where is the best to go. Im planning to flay firsth to London go to agencies like Man Power or Addecco. What do You think about it? Is it good for a begining? Could You give me some advices?

I would like to also ask about my codings, becouse mine ones are: PN-EN 287-1:2011: 141 T BW 5.1 S t4.5 D38.0 H-L045 ss from UDT polish codings unit is it enought to get ajob i UK? Should i do TUV codings before i will go?

I will be really gratefull for any advice.

I'm sure others who are more in the trade will chime in here, but as far as I'm aware there is not a lot of demand for tig pipe welders here in the UK at present, nearly everything is plastic pipe rather than steel. I know that Jones construction in Dorset were/are looking for pipeline crews but I think they are TIG root, flux core hotpass, fill/cap.

Most tig work is in the sheetmetal/aerospace/motorsport industry rather than pipeline.

There is always a fair amount of Tig welding jobs in Aberdeen, the agency's advertise all the time and there is a large polish community.

When the new Hinckley nuclear power station finally starts construction I imagine they will be crying out for welders here in Somerset.
EDF have already made approaches and site visits to local engineering companies.

Thank You very much for so qick respond Mates I will check Aberdeen and Somerset, I,ve allready send a few of CVs, I mwaiting for responds, I hopethat willbe respond .I saw on sites like cv-library that most of vacancies are for stainless steel, my experience with stainless is not so big, I fell more confident with carbon steel and boiler welding the most. Could be the best to find job like this for me. Do You know any companies or agencies who are recruting Tig welders for boiler welding?

Hi Chris, Hugh,

There is quite a large demand in the UK for Tig pipe welders. This time of year the big construction companies will start recruiting for the power station shut downs/refits.

Email your CV to Doosan Babcock in Tipton, and Alstom etc. There are plenty of jobs going round for that sort of thing. Also a lot of the pipework for the industrial sprinkler systems is all steel tube and often Tig welded. Maybe best off asking on UK welder.com as that site tends to be for more industrial welding jobs

Matt, interesting to hear that. I had forgotten about ukwelder.com, but now you mention it there were always jobs posted on there when I used to use that forum.

There will be a lot of jobs in power generation full stop if you wait around long enough, demand is rising for the product yet de-commissioning is still seemingly ahead of commissioning and we have wasted too much cash subsidising so called "green" projects that aint so green it turns out and certainly aint so effective.
it must seem great in some countries but cost of housing and living and tax in the UK is so much greater than many think.

Mates, What do You think about polish codings UDT, en 287-1 are they respectable, do I need to make TUV? Or just dont carry about it,pass site tests and company will give me new codings? Is it possible?

Do you feel you are capable of passing a 6g tig all the way out on schedule 40 carbon steel? If so, I doubt you have anything to worry about... I consider it highly likely that any firm that employs you will put you through in house tests.

HughF I think that 6G schedule 40 in carbon steel will be not a problem, I did ask for codes becouse those are extra money i need to invest, so in that way I think that I will not gone do it. I will just do CCSNG safety passport and take rest savings for my trip
