Best exhaust welding ever seen

Sorry if I'm being Captain Obvious, but it looks like a bit of scrap they are burning off the extra stick out from the mig on. I have seen it before on photos of earth clamps with production welders. Someone at home might take a pair of side cutters to the unwanted wire stick out, but it is easier to burn it off if you are in a bit of a rush?

No-one is that bad surely, or am I being naive?

I reckon thats a mounting fixing, the bit that pushes through the rubber hanger.

I did a temporary repair on a go kart recently at the track. It was strong enough to get the lad through the day.
I had tag welded it so that it would be easy to clean up and tig it later.
Along came the lad’s relative who was dissatisfied with my job and said he was a welder and could do it “properly” if he could use my mig.
The result was not dissimilar to the top picture.

2" of stick out after each weld? Really? I used to get 1/2" on my old Sip, but if they're welding exhaust pipes they'd not be running very fast.

Some inverters keep the wire feeding after you release the trigger to stop the wire welding to the tip. Its adjustable on some units but on my Rtech its not & it does get annoying when you have to cut off the excess wire before welding.

My latest Mig torch has a hair trigger. Brush it and the welder feeds. Add thick heavy gloves into the mix, along with putting the torch down and picking it back up, and I have a good recipe for lots of unwanted wire.

We took away their clamps and bolted the work return directly to their bench so they had to find another solution...
