I have decided, I think.., to invest in a portamig. I feel it is time to move on from C02 and up into the world of Argon mix

For hobby/light industrial work is the BOC Volkszone offer still the best route to go down? I like the idea of owning the bottle but the refill charges seem like if you were gonna go through more gas then your better of renting? Plus do they still collect it for free?

Any advice would be appreciated

I believe the Volkzone deal is still a good way to go, Depending upon how many refills you will get through,There is no handling charge when you refill but I don't think BOC will collect your bottle free , I always exchange them myself at the local depot .and the gas seems much cheaper than the no rent bottles.

Hmmm yeah I guess there is probably a local depot in Chester or somewhere reasonably close. I will look into that.. I will be buying the machine to do the remaining welding on my Volvo but I wouldn't mind doing some more work with it on the side.. which is why I'm thinking of investing a bit of money into buying a decent machine rather than carrying with my little Clarke

I guess I could try the BOC offer and see how I get on with it..

South West Gas offer a good deal, and there should be a supplier local to you.

You pay a £50ish depost on the bottle and there is no rental.. And if/when you decide to return the bottle you get 100% back. Refils are under £40 and they are 200bar too (unlike some of the cheaper places who are offering 137bar)

They also offer a cashback (£10 for a 10l bottle and I believe £20 for 20L) offer for Forum Members!

So for people who use little gas, its a very good deal as you pay once and then only ever pay for the gas.

Just off the phone to BOC and got the Volkszone deal

Argoshield Light size Y. Part number 24-Y
Gas price: £24.51 + VAT
Environment and Energy surcharge: £1.92 + VAT
Annual rental: £35.80 +VAT

They emailed me out the paperwork, printed it signed it and took it in to my local stockist and walked out with my gas all inside an hour.
