Best and cheapest places to get scrap metal ( STAINLESS AND MILD STEEL)

hi forum people !

I live dorset and wondering where will i buy like 10 or 20 kg
stainless or mild steel.how much aprox will i pay for that.
im talking about flat plates ,lets say 6x6 inch and some tubes
and square tubes too. ?

any experience in finding places with scrap metal?
please advice me something

it all rather depends where you live. To buy online is almost always more expensive and then some.

Your best bet is to drive around your local area in mostly small industrial estates for metal fabrication workshops and also keeping an eye out for signs saying stuff like "gates, railings, grilles made" often at the end of small side roads,

Walk in and politely ask if you could maybe rummage through their metal skip if they have one or in their offcuts in exchange for some beer or tea money,
this often works and they're likely to do this for you on an occaisional basis.

I'm not sure if it's true, but I've been told that 'general' scrap yards (not to be confused with car breaker's yards) are now banned from selling small amounts of scrap to the general public. I can't see why as it's the best way of recycling the stuff with only a slight discrepancy between flow through to show how much recycling is actually being accomplished. Dump-It sites are different as they are usually run by the local council and they make up the rules to suit themselves without any regard for practicality!
