Bending help needed

[Spark plug]

I need to make a new clevis strap for the tractor drawbar as it came with the wrong one fitted and doesn’t work well nor is it safe. I need to replicate the bottom clevis as shown hear:

It’s made from 2-1/2” x 1-1/4” and although the top clevis doesn’t support any weight it still needs to be something reasonably tough so thinking EN24?

The biggest problem is going to be bending especially with two bends so close together, dose anyone know ware I could get this bent or anyone able to help?

you just buy them ,,, then weld them onto what ever needs one

If thats the short bar that goes onto the lower link on the pick up ,,, its very wrong too.

What's the offset? Perhaps buy 2 1/2" square bar and machine to shape. Not economic in mass production, but doable for one-off with the tools you have. Plasma cut from 65mm plate?

That did cross my mind, I was just wondering if it would be as strong, the offset is 1-1/4” so 2-1/2” would do.

Ive only ever seen them solid ,, no box .
Looks like some one has knocked up something as a ''get you by'' in a hurry , time for a new one , so if thats the case , trim off the box and use the hitch you have ,,, post a pic of the whole thing if possible , like to see the other end ,

There was a shelf full of them last time I was in out local supplier ,,,,,, literally dozens of them , every trailer manufacturer uses them

cut off the box , and replace it with solid bar stock , is the thought .

It’s the correct drawbar just the clevis has been lost at some time in the past by a previous owner, clevis is are available for other drawbar, I just can’t find one for this one, if I could find one that would be great.

Its not welded, the top clevis is removable, it’s held in place with two pins, which would explain it being lost.

I just struggling with how to get something so heavy bent, it’s a bit beyond the fly press.

if you had a long bit of steel in the hole , and the burners beside you , you could use the tractor hydraulics to do the bending for you ,, make life a bit easier.
then just trim off the spare bit and drill the hole.
At least were all on the same sheet now ,, lol

Agree heat and bend. Not too difficult if you leave the ends long. The trick is to make the first bend then, after the next heat, chill that bend to make the next.

if you dont think you can heat that thickness of metal think again a japenese forge heats a thicker piece of metal

all it uses is charcoal and a hand pump to heat that thickness of metal

make one end fit , pins in place ,, leave three feet sticking out the back , bung it in the tractor , heat up just the first bend with the burners and then put the spare long end on a log , or the likes . use the weight of the tractor and the hydraulics to bend it ,,, cool first then turn the thing over in the hitch if needed heat second , bung a block of wood in the gap so you keep the right parallel gap between the two , and use the log and hydraulics to close the gap ,,,, trim the long bit off , then go drill a hole , tidy it all up , and have tea and bacon rolls as required.
