Bench Top sandblast cabinets

Are the cheap internet offerings upto the job? Do the gloves last well or are they split in no time, do they all require a separate hopper or is it built in on some?
All advice and input appreciated.

I had a clarke one and to be honest,it was pants,leaked like a sieve and you couldnt see what you were doing.
i knocked up one from plywood and put some proper lighting it,DIY is the way to go

I inherited one from a mate that was pretty much knackered. One of the chinese jobs like Sealey and crew knock out. I put a new lid on and LED under cupboard lights which went inside the plastic tube that the electricians cable pulling rods came from!! Works a treat on all the small stuff I do. Anything bigger just gets sent to my local blaster who charge naff all and do it quickly.

Have a good look at a Clarke one and build your own - doing everything opposite to the Clarke one.

I've got a cheap and cheerful Sealey one and for the money it's ok for my intermittent use. I've rigged dust extraction using an old Henry wet vac with a couple of inches of water in the collection tank - seems to work ok.
I'm only using glass beads though.

oil drum will cost £10 on ebay,cut a square hole out in the middle and cover it with clear perspex,cut two holes below perspex for the managing gloves,cut a square out on one of the tops and weld a hinge plate door in its place....well you should have the idea now?

Out of the box the Clarke/Sealey cabinets are pretty useless but can be made to work reasonably well with some mods, vacuum extraction being one major improvement with additional air flow into the cabinet. The gloves have lasted ok as I keep an old pair of pliers in the cabinet for small stuff and a couple of 12v sealed halogens add better lighting. I'm using vacuum forming blister pack sheet as sacrificial screen covers taped to the plastic window.

I use a small top loading Clarke and find it more than adequate for most small jobs. As others have said, dust extraction using an old Henry is the key.

I must admit that I tend to use electrolysis to remove rust and paint stripper to remove paint these days, so it rarely gets used.
