Bench Specs?

Hi,
Looking for advice on bench construction.
I've been checking the threads and still have a question or two.

I'm after replacing my current wood/worktop/tool case storage bench, (made from a worktop and 3x 3) with something a bit more fireproof for metal working/ welding as well as wood work.

What sort of spec would I be after for making something similar in steel?
I realise it's a 'piece of string' question, but would box section be preferred to angle iron? and what kind of size would be considered strong enough.

And what sort of things would an expert design in, please?

Personally I'd go to 40x40 or 50x50 steel box section frame with an 6-8mm steel top as minimum. Bolt a vice through it and fit some angle iron shelf supports and 10mm thick ply shelves inside with 4-6mm steel doors on the outside with a bolt to lock them shut.

I made one a few months ago now out of 40x40 box as Exuptoy suggests it is proper solid I used 6mm for the top which is near enough for my tinkerings!

This is mine. The box section is what I had at my workshop with a 3mm top and is fine for what I need. A heavier duty one is never a bad thing though, just depends what your budget is and needs.
