Cheers. The air intakes i let into the decklid were where wheeled and a wheel would be useful for many shapes of motorbike tanks too. Those car tanks not so much as it's all small radii curves and only on the edges of panels. They were done by tuck shrinking, some simple homemade wooden formers and really basic hand/panel beating tools for the most part except for a bead roller/jenny swage and a lathe to make the dies for pressing the relief to recess the fuel gauge sender

As promised pics of my rogue piece etc.. Please note I've literally had 10 mins to do this as I'm on night shifts so not great attention to detail..
Anyway the rogue pice marked ?
Weighed 103g.. ( obv I've made an typical error here as this is indeed the lighter piece of the two) it's 1.2 mm thick and I can't bend it by hand it also does not attract to a magnet.. On its own as soon as heat was applied it blew away as you can see..
The SS piece weighed 202g 1.2mm thick one run without rod 2 with SS fitter rod @ 1.6mm
No issues really apart from poor eyesight..
For both ..gas on 4 with gas lens fitted and run at 30amps..
The SS piece seemed to hold its heat far more than the rogue holed piece...
Hope this helps to identify what the rogue piece might be...

Welding on Alu in DC doesn't lift or move the oxide layer without the positive half wave part of the cycle doing the cleaning. Because the Alu itself melts at 1/3 of the oxide layers temp you end up melting it under the oxide layer. It's a bit like welding under a carpet. Helium shield is really the only way you'll have some success welding it in DC but even then it's messy. The black soot is oxides been transferred across the arc, again it's probably more elaborate here due to the lack of cleaning going on and high contamination I'd say.

It's heading for the bin.. Pronto.. Top explanation though boss ... Will get some SS stock and keep it well away from everthing else.. Tried to get some from the stockholders at Fordham/kentford as you suggested but No.. They can't do.. So still struggling at mo.. X

When I do my tuition sessions I just use off cuts. get mine off a guy I know locally. All unwanted off cuts. He does em at 1.50 a kg to me. Usually big lumps to be fair that I cut down into strips on the saw. Find a place like that and just ask em if you can buy there off cuts for practice
