First post so go gentle with me!
I've done a little stick and mig over the years, mainly just keeping old cars on the road.
I'm by no means a welder!
I've watched people Tig weld and really fancy having a go.
Ideally I'd like to get a machine that is capable of welding stainless (exhausts) and aluminium (catch tanks, rads etc)
It will mainly be a weekend warrior and will only see light use.
I can't see me wanting the weld anything larger than 6mm.
I've been trawling the classifieds and the tig section of the forum and have narrowed my search down to either a Parweld XTT202P or an Rtech Tig161. The Rtech is my current fave as I'd be able to get the entire setup from them including consumables, helmet and gas.
I appreciate these are "bottom end" machines but im a beginner, my use will be pretty minimal and an extended warranty should see me good for 4 years.
My thinking is that within 4 years I'll either be upgrading to something bigger/better or selling up if tig is not for me.
Does the above sound like I'm taking a sensible (correct) approach or is there something I'm missing?
