Every one loves a bargain - especially when it's free, and turns up something that is needed.
So happily I found this by the bins on a large housing estate locally - Nearly broke my back trying to look as un-pikey like as I could whilst had it away.....



Perfect fit as well!

Probably a inch thick, but; will it take a few sparks and blobs of weld without turning me into a barbeque?

Council estates around here are a great source of 'project material'...Anyone else have a secret 'Stig of the dump' emporium?

Is it rubber that is intended for outside purposes because if its not it wont last long being outside. Good idea though, i might ask my rubber place that gave me some and the cash went to the charity box so cheap.

It's inside, but outside, under a temp garage thingmajig...
How fast it it likely to rot if its purpose is inside use only.??..Well thats certainly pushed the schedule forward

You could cut through it with a Stanley to check but ifs it's virgin rubber the whole way through with no cord or filler its damn near indestructible. Looks like the mats they use in stable blocks for horses.

That looks very much like stable flooring,it is laid to make the stable floor soft for horses. Fantastic stuff all my garage floor is done in recycled stable matting. look around stables always being thrown out.

never gets thrown out of our stables. stuff costs about £40 a piece and never wears out in stable use..

My service manager's ex-wife (I know, I know) was (is still, maybe) a dressage rider, however it was always him that got to shovel **** and clean the rubber stable floor mats. He said he had to drag them outside and get a pressure washer on them, used to make him gag.
I helped him pick up some new ones in their horsebox once, I'm sure they looked even heavier and more coarsely ribbed than the ones in the pic above...

Some have deep square ribs on one side and dimples on the other. The ribbed side allows 'liquid' to drain away.

I floored my dog runs with them. Warm, softter than concrete, hardwearing and easy to keep clean.

Bin thinking - Yep, another sibling I believe...

Dev, Dave Sherwood & sparky_col: Hmm, not sure that there are that many stables in the local area - the closest place to see a horse is in the Kebab shop..
Dev: the underside is dimple-less, and from what I can see without cutting into it doesn't have any sandwich material showing. My guess is it came from the 'plant' room. The local council has remodeled the pump house which serves the estate - looks 'industrial'

I'm Joking: It's a great idea, and again one of my lucky finds...A casual conversation with 'some bloke', and 10 min later I was loading thirteen 3m lengths of 4x2 on the roof rack for free.

If its the stuff you get in stables I had an offcut under my anvil for ages. Although it stinks a bit if hot stuff lands on it it never caught fire.
