I've a beat up old BBQ I'm repairing, and the ash pan which will house the charcoal needs replacing. It's about 19inches by 12inches
I'm looking at simply folding the edges of a steel sheet to make a new one. Two options I'm looking at are:
Galvanized steel sheet (Ebay)
Scrap Steel from old boiler cover c1990s (white powder coat)
A check online suggests that a "high heat" on a charcoal BBQ is (450 to 650 degrees F) or 230 to 350 deg C.
At these kind of temperatures would the galvanisation or power coat give off fumes?
Any different recommendations for material/coating? I was thinking that stainless would be a waste of money but open to suggestions.
Wife suggested buying a new BBQ but I thought it would be more fun to fix.
