Just spotted BBC4's 8pm offering tonight, "The engine that powers the world" - a history of the diesel engine.

I wonder if they'll work backwards and start with VW's current situation......?

What a fantastic programme!

Some amazing figures; the first British submarines had petrol engines and a range of 280 miles, but the German diesel-powered subs could go 11,000 miles before refuelling!

And then there was the container ship;

18,500 litre engine
75,000 BHP​

Awesome. I'm off to buy a tractor.
