battery size

I need to select a battery for the mk1 escort project. Its going to have a 2.0l pinto engine battery in the boot, spot lights, fuel pump, fan, heated front and rear screens. Any sparks help?

depends on what output alternator your using and current draw to what size ah battery required

Good quality 075 or a 100 would be my choice. Something branded instead of cheapy cheerful though.

500 ish CCA should do it. It's more the grunt to start you need to worry about than the amp hour, alternator should supply enough to run the rest once it's started.

Always had good luck with the Red top 30s but haven't bought one in a while so there might be some newer alternatives.

I didn't remember I was having a nosey about to see if you had any more posts on the escort build

Heavy wire to battery if in boot, if Pinto is really high comp, might be better to have 2 x 12 volts and switch start to 24 volt.
Used to be standard on the BDA \BDG & other high compression variants

I am a big fan of the spiral wound Optima batteries, lots of power,gel filled and sealed(can be mounted in any position,even upside down) can stand for a year with very minor discharge and can also take massive recharge current if needed, Pricy but worth it.

Its not going into competition, time we've done what the owner wants doing to it including a seriously Ott paint job, its going to be worth a small fortune so is probably better described as a 'tribute car'. If im reading it right, the emphasis will be on the cold crank rate. Correct?

I think optima has dropped their cold crank rate a little on the newer batteries,check them out. One of mine was still going strong at 13 years old, Cold cranking amps were 1050A. They were the batteries that powered the moon lunar buggies!!

it will probably depend on how many electrical toys you're going to install, if you 2.0Ltr has come from a donor car you can use this as a starting point
