as i'm too tight to buy de-ionised water i've looked @ using some from a water butt thats plastic & drains a plastic roof,however the fixings holding the sheets are steel,as i have several batteries to maintain,its a worthwhile dodge.is it significant?

Use distilled water, it is cheap. I pick up a gallon jug at the grocery and it lasts me years.

Knacked batteries will cost you more than a drum of deionised/distilled water will. Either buy the proper stuff, else distill your own.

The stuff sold in supermarkets is pennies, far cheaper than new batteries. Dehumidifier water needs filtered as it can contain a lot of dust.

It can also have aluminilum, copper or zinc galv metal content if any of the units I have taken apart are anything to go by for most have a galv steel collection tray that runs to the vent pipe or internal tank and the cooling fins are either stainless , aluminum or tinned copper

no good it still has the impurities in it, it is a myth that you can use anything but de ionised water

it costs pennies and if you need that much your batteries have a problem or you are overcharging them frequently

I wish some one would buy some at work, doing "pre flight" checks on a fork truck and found a lot of the cells low, 4 empty 25L drums in a row in the charging bay

A close friend used to work for "Chloride Batteries at their Dagenham Factory" as quality control chemist. He has always used ordinary tap water......make what you like from that.....I've never bought distilled water and never had a problem.

Have often used water from ice formed in the freezer when no distilled water available. More a matter of convenience than cheapness, I'd have thought.

You might as well buy some 17p bottled water from supermarket (not sparkling ) as it's well filtered and will be far cleaner than rain water.
