bathroom sealer help

ive got a rather large uneven gap along the side of our bath , im struggling to make a nice fat bead in one go

would there be any issues like pickling up if i was run some sealer forced into the gap , then a week later run another one on top to look tidy?

are you going to tile??
some excellent angle shaped sealers , fixed to the wall, the first course of tiles cover a lot of it, makes the finish to filling the gap not as critical, very neat and tidy and very popular now.

get some masking tape and run it along the wall then run another piece along the bath . gun the silicone in and run your finger along it. it leaves a nice smooth finish . slowly pull the tape of before it sets job done .

if you have a fibreglass bath, you need to fill it up with water, and then do the filling, My mate didn't made a lovely job of the sealing, exept when you get in the bath the gap appears

its against tiles ..can you link yo something that would finish it

You can get some flexible plastic sticky stuff from B&Q that does a nice job. It's flat but folds up to make a pre formed angle. Peal off the backing and stick it down. Job done.

I bought some the other day but it's out in the garage and I can't be arsed to go get it and see what it's called. VERY good shout about filling the bath with water first though. Surprising how much it drops down when full!

yeah id seen the adhesive stuff , what happens where it goes over tile grout wont it let water past it?

already filled it up

aint keen on the masking tape idea as it leaves a edge when you pull the tape up

Used the same stuff and yes it was spot on, I did wonder about the grout areas myself so put the smallest dab of clear silicone on my finger and pressed down into the hollow.

It made a nice clean job and has been there about 7 years now with no problems.

the angled stuff wasnt on the market last time I did the bathroom, as I`m unbelievably finicky, after searching to cover over a descent gap, I went for a plastic quadrant from Focus DIY ( now defunct), mitred the corner, and got a cap for one end, The masking tape idea has been mentioned, I masked over the quadrant cutting the surplus tape off, and masked along the tiled wall, the gap had been previously filled - just rough with a bath filled with water and left to dry, the edges of the quadrant were siliconed and put in place, the surplus was removed with a home made scraper, just a bit of plastic with a wee corner removedto clean off the surplus and leave a real nice almost square edge of silicone between the quadrant and the tile, now ever so gently and pulling up and away the masking tape was removed, and then ever so gently not to pull the quadrant up, the tape was removed off the quadrant, faffy, piccy, over the top, whatever, it worked, its the finishing touches that make a difference, and its never needed re-doing. done a whole hotel of bathrooms, I did one to show a clerk of works, how good a good job looks, after a tiling firm thought they were mastic-ing window frames and not bathrooms. sometimes you should keep yer hands in ya pockets and keep ya mouth shut, but a few rolls of masking tape and a roll of paper hand towell and the company made a fortune.
