barierr coat

Got 2 cars im hoping to paint soon . Not sure about the barrier prosess. Or what's best to use ,top coat will be celly. I assume i can flat the existing palnt and prep as normal, then apply the barrier coat . Do I then flat the barier coat . Then prime the hole car or, not flat the barrier and apply primer then flat as norm. Or do I flat barrier the apply top , finish. This is my hobby resto so limited to 2hp compressor HVLP gun ,
M3 mask and my double garage no heat or extractiomn.

What paint are you painting over? You only need barcoat if you are painting over rubbish paint. If the paint is original modern paint you should be able to paint over it after flatting.

We used barrier \ isolate coat if the original paint was poor or thick cellulose ( helped stop thinners migrating to old finish only to re appear weeks\months later) , we also used it most of the time on fibreglass, as richie000 says no need if 2k,flat prime & top coat

Dont know what paint os on it irs been done
before I had it and its got some crazing adn blisters all over.

Unfortunately you will need to remove all the paint back to bare metal to get a half decent job with your celly. Barcoat as said is an alcohol based product that allows you to paint over poor incompatible paint long enough to sell an old dog. If you have blisters and or crazing in the existing, its probably been done before (badly) and will come back to haunt you wasting all your time and money.

I've used bar coat a few times and never had any success with it.It never seems to go on smooth enough and you shouldn't flat it back or it cracks up a few months later due to too much paint thickness or it still reacts.
Again using celly things never go as nicely as it should, 2k all the way for me now.

Lechler epoxy works well as an isolating primer, but not over cracked or blistering paint.

if you are going to use an isolator apply it leave an hour and don't sand

yeah dont go thinking barrier coat is a fix for blisters and shinky paintwork , its generaly a last resort for cheapo bodge ups that you wont see again

if theres blisters then roar it all off until its back the original sound paint or bare metal
