received one today for a roofing job...i have no problem taking them from house holders but would i take one off a stranger for goods not knowing there true identity or address?..NO

They can be forged, so it'd be a "No" from me...and I'm an ex-Banker.

They can be faked do you know what they look like? Or how too spot a wrongun as most people have no idea. Bank transfer all the way for me unless you know the person.
They can transfer the cash on a phone app at your house and by the time the paperwork is done it should hit your account. When I brought my bus it took 20mins from my bank to his.

None of them are entirely safe, even a bank transfer although one of the safest can fail because they dont clear instantly unless done correctly.

Strangers and large amounts = cash only as far as I am concerned, rather lose the sale than be robbed.

take your buyer to the bank, and pay it in to your account - then they check it for you.

The cash element of a payment yes, but they can't guarantee that a draft is genuine, the 'alleged' issuing Bank can return it as a forgery, which can take days/weeks depending on location.

Take your buyer to the bank, get him to pay the funds into your account there and then....
