Sorry a bit late coming to this thread but I've got the same saw and mine was in a similar state when it arrived. If it's any peace of mind I've been using mine a while and it's been fine.
However before I used it I did open up the gearbox, remove all the oil and give it a good clean. The box is full of casting sand etc and I can't imagine it does any good to the screw. If you haven't done this to yours yet then I'd definetly recommend you do.
Also I've got a pdf that goes into detail on how to set the blade up on a 4x6 saw, if you'd like a copy drop me a PM with your email address
