Having problems with my Addison band saw the blades don’t seem to be lasting like they used to. I’m running a 8/12 blade and they just don’t last with most of the teeth being lost (that sale rep with the evo saw jinks it ) can u still get the black blades I used to get my supplier changed to the silver ones some time ago and says they dont make em any more

Might be worth having a chat with the guys at Dragon Saws, they helped me when I needed new blades.

murex there are some cheap nasty blades out there, then again there are some nice ones as well, find nice ones and stick to them, dont be tempted by cheaper ones

I've had an Addison vertical band saw for about four years and I'm still using the blades it came with! It cuts a lot of thin stainless (wind the speed down), thick ms sections and ally all on the same 14tpi blade. I've not tried variable pitch on it, mainly because thin stainless does tend to rip the teeth off coarse blades. I use 8/12 variable pitch on my horizontal bandsaw, a bit slow on thick flats but good on sections and tube.
Incidently Murex400, does your saw cut parallel to the fence? W/A

I use dragon saws as well for my clarke saw. Quick service.

Do they seem to be tensioning properly?
If the bearings in the wheels have a lot of play that doesnt help

Had a play with yesterday don’t think the hydraulic ram is working properly turning the leaver from slow to fast is not making any difference

Daz never use cheap blades that’s why I could not understand why it was killing the them so quickly

blades are funny things murex, i got a small band saw that cuts 300mm wide, very similar to what my steel supplier has, different machine but same blade size. I get my blades off him, he buys 20 at a time gets them a lot cheaper and then i buy them off him. he has given me part used blades before (about 1/2 hr's use) because the blade wont run correctly in his machine, not very often it happends, but i always seem to be able to make the blade run fine in my machine, i just put it down to mine being better set up than his and the fact i replaced the pinch rollers about 6 months ago

Definitely agree that the cheapy blades are a disaster, I switched to using Honsberg blades bit expensive but definitely worth it.

I did a search for Honsberg blades and only one place came up in Ireland. Looks like you can't get them anywhere else

ive been using simonds blades found the problem to be the hydraulic feed as when you turned the leaver from rabbit to tortoise (fast & slow ) feed It made no difference.The seals had gone In the ram 2 new seals later it working fine again

still a great blade though, a friend of mine says that the simmonds blades are good also !

90% of problems with horixontal machines is in the set up or wrong blade selection. If you want advise on blade selection then feel free to give me a shout
