It’s unlikely as a vmc head isn’t prone to dropping when the power is off so no servo braking, though they do have counterweights.I read somewhere that ballscrews on a manual mill are not such a good thing as they are so smooth that unless you have really good table and saddle locks they tend to turn under cutting pressure

Look a cnc on frictionless linear rails, they won’t move.I fitted a 1605 ballscrew to the cross slide on the M300. I’ve taken huge cuts, the dro doesn't even flicker
True but machining centres don’t have coarse pitch that moves eitherOn a cnc the screws are held by the motors .......
On a manual I think friction from the jibs and screw should be sufficient to hold
