Bakelite (?) carb thermal barrier.

I know that deep in my memory I can recall some trade name for this stuff but I've drawn a blank for the moment. I need to make a new spacer betwixt carb and manifold for a 1940s car and wonder if some kind soul could give my memory a nudge as to what I need to type into Ebay or Googoo? Obviously needs to be fuel/ethanol proof and heat resistant. Any suggestions most welcomed. Ta.

1.1\4 or 1.1\2 1 or 2 expect SU isolator blocks how is the rest going
Will have a look in the big box later in the day can remember 1 or 2 in there but 2 or 3 of us delve in if we want bits & they may be gorn

This one is, unfortunately, a 1 1/8 SU from the Morris 8 series engine, hence they are hard to find. I have a couple of think ones that are chewed up and crumbly plus a few later/larger ones that have the wrong hole spacing. Thanks for the offer of help!

Tufnol. That's the name I was looking for. There seem to be a few different flavours on Ebay. I assume there isn't going to be much difference to worry about? Is it all going to be fuel proof?

I use Tufnol to make plenum chamber insulators for the RV8 injection. A lot of places sell them but usually only 3mm thick; I do them either 6 or 10mm thick... the trick with the 10mm one is to mill an equivalent thickness off the bottom of the trumpet base so the inlet tracts stay the correct length.
Usually after a good thrash you could fry bacon on the plenum chamber but the insulator means you can hold your hand flat on it.

Grade, well I was always given the stuff with some visible weave on the surface, carp or whale
probably? I looked for some recently, looked in my draw of odd bit's of **** and found a bit big
enough to make a carb spacer, it's very smooth and is probably paper rather than cloth.
It seems to be fine as a carb spacer. So I guess grade is not to important.

Hole saws work well enough to put big holes through Tufnol.

Good idea! Dremel and a face mask might also be needed. I guess a jigsaw is going to mash up the edges.
