bad welding

Hi there!

I'm new to mig welding, and recently bought a cemont maxistar 180mec, and i happends that when i'm welding, it starts ok, but after 1 or 2 cm it starts to splatter, like it's feeding wire too fast.

I bought the welder on ebay, brand new, and the guy gave me a roll of wire, can it be the problem cause?

I thought it was my lack of knowledge, but even my uncle that has been welding for a while, does the same.

It works fine on tack welds.

i allready tried all power settings, and sitll does bad welds.

You have tried power settings but have you tried adjusting the wire speed through the range, or does it do it at all wire feed settings?

Is your gas getting through alright? Ages ago I had a regulator that only allowed gas through for a few seconds then stopped and it caused a problem like that.

if the wire speed is too low it wont weld continuous as it normally hapends, if it's too fast, it hits the metal piece.

the regulator is brand new, as the machine. the regulator was arround 40£. i noticed that when i start welding, the gas pressure decreases a little bit on the gauge.

if by any chance you are using pure Co2 that causes a bit more spatter

yes, it's co2 gas.

can it be the wire quality? which is the best wire i can get?
