backing up dead Samsung phone before factory reset

Hello, dropped my Samsung phone, in a wallet case, with a screen protector, still broke the screen.
Samsung will do a factory reset as part of the repair.

I run Ubuntu in Linux. There is a system in abd. I've never had any luck with wine.

But, the big problem is the screen is black, so I can't unlock it because I can't see anything.
All contacts are on the SIM, all photos are on the micro SD card. It is all the fiddly bits I would like to back up.

Any ideas how to back up the phone before I send it away?

If its been set up with a google account, i would have thought that all the info has been carried over to the google account?

I mean, when my partner broke her phone, we got a new one, she signed in on the new phone, and, magically, everything was there - even her apps.

There is a samsung program called kies or something.
Install it and there is an option to do a full backup/restore via usb
Works on windows, no idea about anything else.

Unless it's a warranty repair probably cheaper to find a local phone place to replace the screen. I have never lost any data when mine have been replaced.

If your lucky and your phone has otg and output we have in the past ran a micro usb to usb, usb splitter one to hdmi adapter to a montior/tv. The other to a mouse to control.

This was 5/6 years back mind.

It is a Samsung J5 2016.

My wife has the later model so I did a tracing of the keypad to type in the PIN lock. No joy. ABD on Linux still can't find it.
Being collected tomorrow.
The local 'we fix phone screens' was in the local shopping centre. All the shops are shut so he doesn't bother setting up his stall.
