awelco nw185p - wire feed roller required

hi been looking at this great site for along time now i have a problem which im hoping somebody can help with . i have a awelco nw185p mig welder [stop laughing] i need a 6mm-8mm wire feed roller for it ,can anybody point me in right direction please?

If you will post a photo of the wheel, and dimensions, thickness, diameter and measured drive hole size.
Someone may have a suggestion.

thanks michael been in contact with that site you very kindly gave me .they do stock the same type of roller but only in gasless type [ teethed grooves] ive already got that and it tends to snarl up my steel wire . does anybody know if there is ever been one made to take 6mm -8mm steel wire ? dimensions are 30mm with 10mm drive hole and small grub screw to retain it . photo might follow thanks folks

what do you mean by snarl up you wire ?
it it birdsnesting near the feed rollers ?
if so it could be that the liner is too far away from the feed rollers and or torch / liner problem

the wire does not birdnest but cuts clean off just passed rollers . the person i got the welder off had steel 0.8 wire on it ,found out later he had problems to . so i have never really had it working properly since being owner .changed liner cos done a few in my time ,no better . took it to local repair shop he told me rollers are for gasless wire so my wire being puhed to hard and not allowing to slip ? he said would not be able to get one but gave me a 1mm one [to stop me crying] and said perhaps somebody could machine that for you . i gave an engineer my knurled one and he tried taking out some of the [teeth] i now can use it to a small degree ! but perhaps im missing the plot and some of you can help please ?:

does it do this regardless of whether you are attempting to weld or not, ive never seen wire snap before mess up yes but not snap

Knurled rollers should work fine. The Clarkes come with them.

You may be using too much tension on the rollers. More likely you have something wrong with the torch, neck, liner or tip. Could also be reel is sticking.

no pal while im not welding the wire runs lovely out of the tip the moment i start welding after about one inch it stops and you just know when you look in m/c it has snapped and got slight bend on end of wire just passed rollers .and i can believe you have not seen this before because i know how strong wire is . you have not said i cant use knurled rollers ,do some welders use these me duck ?

Sounds like you have way too much force on the rollers and are knurling the wire causing drag.

They should leave no visible marks on the wire and just tight enough to not slip. Have restored several wire feeders and have seen many breakages. Was always something other than the rollers. Have seen some big 4-roll feeders with 4 knurled rollers. Still they slip rather than break the wire as that is what they are supposed to do.

Have also seen liners too long, as they heat up, they kink near the tip end.

I bet smooth rollers will just slip. Most don't birdsnest when the wire gets jammed, they just fold a 1/4" end at 90 degrees and break. Soft wire tends to do a big nest though

If it works when not welding, sounds like you have a bad connection between the feeder and the tip. So, rather than power transferred to the wire at the tip, it feeds power back at the liner. Would cause the wire to heat up and get soft.

Have also seen a wire feeder that had an intermittent short to the return.

so now im confused why it working and not breaking wire all ive done is had some of the knurls m/cd out ?

Because its slipping now like it should.

The tension should allow the wire to stop if you point the tip at a non conductive surface & pull the trigger. It need to be tight enough to just pull the wire off the roll & get it to the tip + a little bit. If it pushes the torch away its to tight.

hi folks its me again been waiting for weather to get better so could have a look at welder again . looked at all the useful info from everybody and since realised the problem is in the torch side and not at feeder .my question now is should i be able to push mig wire through the liner easily by hand cos seems way to stiff for any feeder ?

It won't easily go through, it does take some force. You should be able to do it by hand. Should be easy until it hits the swan neck, then get a bit tighter.

took liner out of torch has got some really tight spots slightly better if layed out in straight line .it is new liner but remember having real problem fitting it may be i kinked it or something ?
