Avon 350z cnc milling machine

Long time since I've been here but I've got half an eye on an Avon 350z cnc milling machine that seems to be cheap. only issue with is seems to be that the controls arent working for it.

I'm pretty comfortable with control systems in general, PLCs and the like but never played with any CNC equipment.
Would anyone have any tips on suitable systems to get it running and/or what is likely required if worst case if needs new controls all together?

An internet search bings up plenty of DIY CNC kits, jsut wondered if anyone here has much exprerience of any of them.

It would really depend on what controller and motors are fitted to it, as there are lots of options available for conversion.

You have to start with the motors and their drivers.

Whatever input the motor driver accepts, the control panel needs to produce the same as an output.

A stepper motor driver accepts a pulse train and direction signal.

Servo motors have varying requirements, and the older the machine, the more esoteric those requirements can be.

Many retrofit controllers are available either from UK or China. On those, you have to decide with which language/dialect you are most comfortable. The original machine was Anilam. Fanuc is very common. Siemens is another. Heidenheim is a third.

So it looks like the motors are original as I’ve just been sent photos of Anilam motors.

I have a hunt around online to see what looks like it’s available.
