Autostar160 mig invertor

Hi
I am looking to buy a mig invertor. My local welder supply company has recommended that I purchase an auto star 160 mig invertor. Been offered it at a good price £450 Has anyone got any experience of this machine
Looking to use it for railings gates etc.
Do you think I will be wasting my money and should wait until I find a 200 amp machine in my budget

Think a few folk have them on here...they're just a rebranded Jassic machine I think so should be pretty good I reckon. Think Jasic charge quite a bit more for them!

Hello and welcome to the Forum.

You could use the MMA ( Arc ) option that almost all inverter MIGs also offer, but in MIG mode I don't think that a 160 Amp machine will have enough power for gates and railings.
If you only want to do that kind of heavy work, and don't mind the cleanup, then a basic inverter arc welder can be had for a tenth of your budget ( search "ZX7-200" on this forum ).
The Autostar from a local supplier who would provide support is perhaps a good deal, but you can get 160 to 200 Amp MIGs starting at £180 ( Uptime, StaticArc, BlackLine ).
For more power, reliability, and warranty ( but at a higher price ), consider R-Tech 180, and Paton StandardMIG 250.

Thanks everyone for your various suggestions. I have ended up buying a jasic 200 amp mig inverter. I had a good deal on one of the last older models that wellington welding had in one of their branches so just waiting for it to arrive!
