Automatic Defender

I'm wondering about converting mine to an automatic, its a 300tdi and i thought of using a 300tdi disco auto setup as donor parts, anybody any experience of this?

No specific LR experience but its a big job. Easier to sell up and buy an auto.

Have a look on LR4X4.com or speak to Ashcroft Transmissions.

I believe the conversion has been done plenty of times. Iirc the transmission tunnel is quite an expensive part as I think it was only used in some of the limited edition models which were autos.

Edit: I've just had a quick look and Ashcroft do a conversion kit. The page will at least give you some idea of the parts required.

Not that hard a job

Theres been a few built (Dozzel and V8 Versions) not a hard job just time consuming to make it look like a factory fitted job.

Try asking over at " landyzone.co.uk " I'm sure someone will have done it there.

I've seen a few, biggest problem is the shift lever ends up in the cubby box, if not done correctly

if he's able to fabricate a remote shifter then that solves the problem, its like putting a disco box into a defender you just need to fit the correct shift unit
