Then open the unit, I used a Dremel cutting disc along the seem, don’t cut too deep to avoid the board. Once open you can use a soldering iron to remove the batteries, note the pos and neg terminals.
I used these 6/3v holders with on off switches but you can get single cell holders. Solder them in and cut a recess in the seem to allow the wires to sit flush allowing the unit to be glued closed.
Once dry refit unit and knob then stick the battery holder to the upper area ensuring access to the on off switches. Works a treat.
