UK regains 'extreme' ironing record

"UK divers have broken the world record for the most number of divers ironing underwater.

128 British scuba divers braved the freezing temperatures to take the record, from Australia, for the most number of people ironing underwater, at a depth between 15 and 20 metres, according to organisers.

Although there is fierce rivalry between England and Australia in this bizarre 'sporting' event, the aim was to raise money for charity."

So far the club has raised over 9K for the RNLI! that was the main reason for putting this event on, getting the world record was a bonuses.
Sadly I spotted this on the club site when all the places were taken, so was not part of the event

Some German guys hold the record for the deepest (or they did), something like 226m, just outside the blue hole in Dahab, Egypt.

I once took part in one of these at Stoney Cove, where a few grand was raised for the RNLI. We have seen them heading out into stupid sea conditions (we were battling back), and they are mostly volunteers, with almost all the money for the lifeboats coming from the public.

Still, ironing at Stoney is sensible, compared to re-organising the gnome garden in Wastwater

Dived the blue hole a few years back, pretty intimidating dive, especially when trying to remember how many lives have been lost there over the years!!!
