Ok just in from my sunday afternoon escape to the pub, daughter on the phone an hour and a bit away, with engine and epc warning light on her 2011 Audi A1, she thought she had RAC through the bank, but apparently they changed it, its extra now!

Asked her usually questions, did you put diesel in it, its petrol, was the pump green etc, is there oil in it? Apparently not much from her description.....argghhhhhh.

Sounds like a bag of hammers limp mode? Ive had too much sunday pop to go sort it out, not really sure where to look, but do have a pluggy in thing. So son has gone ( hes mechanically clueless too) to make sure she gets home, any pointers where to look in the morning, as shes no money to go to a garage, and its time bank of dad closed.

Petrol or diesel?

Epc light is usually a electrical malfunction.
Engine management could be anything.

Will benefit from being plugged in unless something silly like exhaust has fallen off.

Ignition coil gone at a guess without any more details. Get the code reader on it and see what faults show up and post them here.

unfortunately these days you need an obdc reader to find out why the car thinks its in limp home mode.
no this still may not be the cause, but it will give you an indication.
the old things were fuel and spark issues, so i'd still check that. but the crank position sensor or emissions would be something that an old school mechanic would not need to worry about

As you can’t go, your son doesn’t know what he’s done g or looking for and daughter not sure what’s she’s put in it. Then your best option is to call AA or RAC who give you immediate cover and arrange assistance.

As others have said you’ll probably need a fault code reader, then it will be a faulty sensor that you can’t get today and when you do get it can’t fit it safely at the The side if the road.

My son rang, to say shes home, and his mate is going to look at it in the morning. From his description running with a cylinder down sounds possible. Ill let them get on with it, and offer moral support over the phone, though I do need to go down to the town tomorrow so may just pop in?

Had a nightmare of a job with my dads new car, started with a flickering rear brake light. Checked the fuses and bulbs no issues, googled it and turns out the battery was low and causing voltage issues. Crap Vauxhall zafira. His first and last foray into non ford ownership...
