I got married in September 2022, one friend bought us a balloon flight,as a paragliding pilot I am used to weather delays,this took us until yesterday evening to experience,after 6 previous attempts,at last patience paid ,with this glorious spell of weather. We took off in Monmouth and drifted west,50 miles visibility,both Severn bridges,Newport transporter bridge,lydney,Hereford and the black mountains. We climbed to 5600’ ASL.
It was magical,one attempt at a landing aborted at 80’ and we easily ascended to a further field where the pilot executed a smooth bump free job. Thoroughly recommend this as a jolly if you can tolerate a few disappointed phone calls,although out of 11 of us,one couple got first booking lucky.

I jumped out of one once at 3000 feet. Odd experience, so calm and quite serene, till I got out. Shame you cant steer them.

Exactly, my brain just couldn't handle the lack of control...up/down seems to be about it...and up can only be used a limited number if times too!
Does look amazing....I think the powered airship would also be excellent too (the flying bum).

My wife and I were given a balloon flight by her late Mother years ago and whilst all the waiting (I seem to recall the operator actually gave us an extension to the year's validity) for various reasons it was well worth it; a glorious late afternoon in the Scottish Borders. It was a red balloon too, funnily enough!

Directional control is easy by selecting the height according to wind direction. It doesn't blow the same direction all the way up you see, it veers with height.

I bought my mother in law a hot air balloon trip as a suprise for her birthday & my wife told me she'd be terrified but would have to go on it because gift (which only added to the appeal for me...), but sadly my son then aged 7 blurted it out to her a few weeks before, and she had my wife get a refund on it.
My missus bought me a balloon flight several years ago it got cancelled a few times before I went. What an amazing experience so quiet when the burners were off. We didn't go a great distance as we had to climb to 1000ft to cross a field of pigs (regulations apparently) and the wind at that height pushed us back in the direction we had come from.

Years ago I asked Per Lindstrand who was flying our jump plane at the time if I could jump his ballon , his reply wasn’t the most polite to say the least. I never did get to do a balloon jump

Last year, in Egypt, we had the chance of a trip, but £270 pp and getting up at 4am didn't really appeal to us.
Those that did go enjoyed it, but instead of seeing the valleys of the kings and Queens as expected, just had an-up-and-down trip. Not one breathe of air that day
