Hi, been practicing for a few days with gasless flux wire and just switched to gas and it’s so much better. Can I ask a few questions and clarify a few assumptions I made that are probably wrong.
I am using a Clarke 196 Turbo, a Hobby Weld 5 type gas at 25 flow rate and find it OK for what I need, just trying to get a bit neater and consistent.
Does a sheet of metal have a power and wire speed setting that will suit it?
The first few welds on the left were done with low power and medium wire speed, and they seemed OK.
Can I higher the power and wire feed and move faster?
The next few welds were me trying to do this, but I got bumps at the back of the weld, is that lack of skill or just a bad idea?
The two really bad welds are me trying to push the weld pool rather than pull it, again is this lack of skill.
The last 6 are me reducing the gas flow rate, this didn’t seem to make any difference, so do people reduce it until it’s as low as it needs to be for them.
Finally if someone set this up perfectly for them, would I need to adjust stuff for my style?
Thanks Mike
