i have a friend welds for a living 12 years now needs some codings for his move to oz based in north wales/ north wales
codings he requires are arc
1f/pa
1g/pa
2f/pb
2g/pc
3f/pf+pg
3g/pf+pg
4f/pd
4g/pe
can anyone advise on somewhere to get them done

I dont want to sound blunt, But go and ask that question in Uk welder.

I take it these codes are plate. If this is the case then the only coding your mate will need is the Over Head Butt. This position covers you for all positions on Plate. Ie If I where to do an Over Head Fillet then that position would cover me for Fillets "ONLY"

The OverHead Butt on plate WILL not cover you for pipe.

As regarding getting a coding, not sure if Babcocks in Tipton cover such codes. Again i suggest you post this in UK welder.

3Rs is spot on, have a look at the aussie welding institute site and check on which standards are recognised before jumping into anything.

I believe ASME1X 6G pipe codings are still the top of the tree and about three pipe sizes will cover you for just about everything, then its material choices, carbon - stainless etc. These will also cover you for plate.

thanks for the the info blunt is fine however i dont use ukwelder and am not a member there sorry just on here!

he only asked if i could find out for him.

he going for a month in june to do some job interviews i told him that surely the employer would rather see some of his prior work with photos and then offer to try out for them rather than spend£££££ on tickets they may not require.
they are moving out later this year and he needs to do welding/fabrication for 2 years to get his residency wife is a copper and will do same over there

3rs are you saying if he gets ticket for 4f/pd plate in mild steel that will then be possibly worth as much as doing all the other tests as it is a harder joint to complete correctly and if that is done they assume he can do a vertical fillet or any other horizontal joint

drains basically says if you had 6g in tig mig and arc they would realise he would be a capable welder however the parameters for 6g are different in most cases ie pipe size etc

ok 3rs and tungsten sharpener i see what you meant about ukwelder
i copped your post about certs many thanks for the help i got hold of babcocks
they charge £250 for the days use of facilities and then £40 per cert and they will tell you as you go along if you have passed or not
he will need to book a place but sounds like that is the way to go
