Is there any problem using a Argon bottle lying on its side?

It will work fine.

No problem with compressed gas, liquefied gas and Acetylene don't like being on their side though!

This one often starts a fight.
I used my argon mix bottle on it's side for years.

Many thanks for that,building myself a welder trolley and will mount the bottle underneath.

Reading the reg at a funny angle is a pain and is potentially more vulnerable from falling tools but it'll work!

Here is a shot of my old welding trolley.
Used it for years like that.

The mig welder sat on the bottom shelf, and the wheels and handle were courtesy of Summerfield
The fire bricks were for a brazing hearth and I used a steel plate on top for welding.
