Are new fit upvc window trickle vents mandatory?

I asked for no vents when I had my front uPVC windows doing...I told the installer I was planning a whole house heat exchanger and they were happy to supply without vents.

At the time it was true...but I never got around to fitting the whole house system unfortunately.

I do like trickle vents myself

but you have to dig around the jargin and the plane B.S by a pen pusher that really dosnt understand the subject there speaking upon

as much as each company has its own comments on them as well as trying to enforce something that really isnt needed

whilst they maybe part of the planning regs on new builds and extensions they are not as clear cut as you might think

new builds have alot of water within them from the wet wood and also the cement and plastering that is used and this water does bleed out into the building whilst the trickle vent might be there it is really useless in a new build or extension as the windows are sopping wet and running with water at the windows

smelly areas ( @Kayos leeds rd the stink around there )

live in the fields or live near a meat place and you know it the stink is so bad you think much spreading is a bad smell it has no caparison to the meat places that smell is truly awful
same goes for those people that live near main roads you get the smell of the traffic into your home have any chest / lung issues and you feel it

you certainly dont want to open your doors/windows or have forced trickle vents

how they are roughly fitted but normally done with a router not a drill

when they speak the b.s of conserving fuel and heat they are really talking crap

a trickle vent will allow warm air out of the room at the highest point, but it must be replaced by another source a trickle vent in a cold room or a feed under the floor (air bricks)

trickle vents dont insulate or block sound they only deflect sound therefore reducing it

windows near roads dont have filters to absorb carbon monoxide or the nasty smells of the meat factories for those that dont understand that reference muck spreading every day but with a nasty smell

i dont know of any double glazed seller that has done an air quality check before selling any double glazed windows to an owner

so what is better to fit instead

a heat exchanger
just one problem it uses electric and there goes your conserving power to heat requirements

Its been in the regs for years, you used to be able to crack a window open and lock it,
as of middle of june this year you need to have proper background vents,
all due to people not venting houses and then complain about the black mould,

sometimes i dont put isolators on bathroom fans fed of the light in rented propertys because the tennants turn them off ive seen houses wrecked in order for tennants to complain about dampness and get re homed

I had a tenant who ran a tumble drier inside a bedroom in a rented property ,,, but didnt put the vent hose on at all , let alone vent it out the window or outside ,,, it just vented out of the back of the machine into the bedroom ,,, and they did that for two years ,,, you had to see the mold to believe it ,,, it was like a cheap nasty sci fi movie ,,, who on earth would be a landlord ,,, two full loo rolls bunged round a u bend ,,, dont get me started ,,, lol
