i have a load of old consumer units and swithches and junction boxes etc that i want to sell but i was wondering if they have to be up to a certain standard

should i sell them as decoration only!!!!!!!!

i dont want any comebacks if some idiot electrocutes himself trying to wire them in

Unless there marked up with a BSEN standard (60947-3 for switch unit forget the one for consumer unit but it's a long one with a few 0 in) then its not upto spec. As for muppets killing them self they shouldn't be playing any way!

when advertising them, state that you take no reponsibility for people that buy them trying to do the work themselves. or sell them as spares or repairs, to be tested by a registered electrician or something. like mentioned above though, if they arent qualified, they shouldnt be messing, so it will be their fault not yours if they get a buzz

if it was a electrician doing it though i wouldnt be so sure

You can go to B&Q and buy any amount of electrical and gas bits that supposedly require a time-served, degree-qualified professor of quantum physics to install, I don't see a difference here
Once upon a time your parts would have been up to spec. and if they were already installed in a building there isn't a team of electrical nazis going round to check, so what people do with stuff is their business

i was thinking if somebody tried to install these and after he had installled them say they had been there for years so it wouldnt need to be checked but if in the process he buzzed himself could he blame me for selling him items that arent legal today

not really, it is the installers responsibility to ensure he specifies, uses and correctly installs parts that are compliant with the current regulations
