Are 1k fillers acceptable?

Ive been using upol 2k fillers but find their setting times add complexity to the job.

I end up rushing against the setting time and generally end up putting excess filler on as I'm trying to do all the areas before the job starts setting. I could mix up for each area but that would get crazy.

For finishing up the small detail late into the job, are 1k any good?

1k wont be solvent resistant and can sink.

Split the job into several managable areas and plan what you are doing before mixing.

i dont use 1k stuff ...maybe for the smallest pin hole but as said it will sink and react given half the chance

dont see why you have problems with 2 part filler , as said mix up smaller amounts and just do one or two dents at a time

Im still working on those alloy suitcases.

Theyre not like a car door where there's been a single incident. It's more that they've had a lifetime of abuse and are covered in varying sized marks.

Each case is two halves, and I have multiple cases.


So, I mix up the 2 part and work as far / fast as I can across the lot before it goes stiff.


I could mix up less, but then I'm mixing all the time instead. And wasting loads. Or dealing with quantities small enough that the ratios start to go all over the place.


What I'd like is a slower setting filler, but they all seem quick.


Or...

Possibly I'm trying to get it too perfect with filler, and what I should be doing is using high build primer and flatting that back?

So I fill some very large panels on campers and they take 4 to 5 mixings to cover one large panel with a layer of filler. The 1k filler I use as a spot filler but I need to cover it with primer before anything else as it like to react with almost everything

i dont see the problem...how long does it take to mix another batch of filler ? 2 mins ?

1k filler isnt your answer...the few mins saved will be clawed back when you have to redo the paint because it sank

If you want to solve a problem I don't think you really have and spend lots of money in the process, you could use uv cured filler.
