It is possible, I used to do it years ago but the buzz box makes it trickier a decent inverter makes it much easier but still you have to be careful. If the plate is thicker just aim most of the heat to the plate and swipe up to the tube as you go.
If you can find a bit of scrap copper to plug behind the weld area it will help.
Even a bit of stainless (big washer) would help. Stick it in the tube and leave it there afterwards
Where about in the country are you? I'm sure someone local on here would be happy to tig weld it or possibly mig weld it for you...arc wont be fun on such thin material, and being stainless as well
It could be done but it's going to be a difficult weld to get right. If possible I'd get some off cuts the same thickness and do a few test joints, if you can't get good results on the test pieces don't try the actual work pieces.
where are you located ,,, could you put a heavier walled spigot on the wall plate then either slip the pole into it , or over it and stick a bolt through it , just thinking of an easier way of getting the job done
