Arc-Tig Converter

I managed to acquire a Clarke Mig weld 215TE turbo. Along with it came another Clarke box called a Arc-Tig 120 inverter. This has 3 leads attached to it. One is the power lead. The other two are leads with earth clamps on the ends and these are connected to the din sockets marked + and - of the inverter. The whole lot were bought at auction and the attachments were all in a tangle on top of the mig and seemed to have been taken from its workplace to the auction so I assume they both work together. What I cannot fathom is what the inverter does and how it connects to the main mig, if indeed it does. Can anybody shed any light on this. It would be much appreciated.

I can shed some light on the correct section you should have posted in.

The other box you've acquired is actually a scratch start DC tig welder, it's nothing to do with that mig welder.
Does it look like this one?

You can see that one has an earth clamp and an electrode holder for stick (arc) welding but with the addition of a valved tig torch and some pure argon you can do scratch start tig welding on mild and stainless steels, copper, and other metals but NOT aluminium so don't get any funny ideas!

Thanks for that. I actually googled the title and saw the same item you displayed and the penny dropped!! Thanks anyway for the effort. I have a tig machine but whether I have the skill for ali is another thing!!

Alu tig is a doddle, I can do it with my eyes shut...in fact I do...then I wake up and realise it was all a dream and I can't.

I did give it a bash once, tbh, I didn't do too badly really. I wouldn't win any prizes for weld appearance but it did the job.
